The Stability and Convergence Electoral Ticket led by Dr Abdullah Abdullah has asked its supporters to allow recounting of votes in seven provinces.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday night broadcast live from mainstream Afghan TV channels, Abdullah said he had asked his supporters to reopen the provincial offices of the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) and allow the vote recount in seven provinces.

“This decision is made as a goodwill gesture,” he said.

Abdullah has warned against announcement of partial, initial or final results of the presidential elections, reiterating his team’s firm stance not to accept it.

Earlier, supporters of the Stability and Convergence team had stopped recounting of votes in Jowzjan, Faryab, Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Sar-e Pol and Panjshir provinces.

Abdullah’s team claims that 300 votes that are invalid should be taken out the system in accordance with the electoral principles.

Elsewhere, the consultative meeting of electoral tickets and political parties held on Friday to put an end to electoral stalemate ended without any result.

The electoral tickets proposed solutions for the existing electoral chaos, but IEC which hosted the meeting did not say when it will decide on these solutions.

But Deputy Head of IEC Esmatullah Mal announced that the commission would announce partial results of the elections in any possible way.
