Former Afghan First Vice-President Abdurrashid Dostum has officially received the highest military medal (Marshal Rank) during a ceremony held in Park-e Shohada (Martyr’s Cemetery) in northern Jowzjan Province on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief of Staff to President Ashraf Ghani, Shaker Kargar, MPs, government officials, political figures and diplomatic officials of some regional countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Marshal Dostum promised he would ensure security in Afghanistan within six months if the Afghan government, the United States and NATO allies give him a chance.

He also urged the Afghan president and Abdullah Abdullah to put aside their differences and introduce their cabinet as soon as possible.

Dostum also called on the Taliban to accept the current system in Afghanistan as a legitimate one and do not seek to overthrow it.
