Afghan CEO accuses Taliban of hindering peace efforts
14 Apr 2019
Afghanistan Chief Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah, in an exclusive interview with Aljazeera has accused the Taliban of creating an obstacle in the peace talk process.
Abdullah said: The Taliban is the obstacle to peace in Afghanistan and is responsible for prolonging the war.
He added: If the Taliban give up fighting and violence and sever their links with the terrorist groups and turn themselves into a political entity and fight for their cause politically and join the political process, the people of Afghanistan will be ready to accept that.
Afghan CEO further added: If the Taliban want to continue the war forever, that’s their choice. If they want to come and sit and talk about peace, there is an opportunity.
In response to a question that the Afghan government won’t survive without US troops, Abdullah added: If it happens without taking the conditions into account, it will have consequences. But that’s why they have intensified their efforts in support of the peace process with the Taliban and also their discussions and consultations with the Afghan all together, as well as with the government of Afghanistan.
