The Acting Foreign Minister says that the Islamic Emirate is not trying to confront any country in the region and the world.

In an interview with the BBC, Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said that the current government was pursuing a policy of non-confrontation with countries.

“The policy of the current government in Afghanistan is not to confront any country in the world. Our diplomacy and relations with other countries are focused on a good policy approach. We do not want Afghanistan to confront any country that puts our people at challenge. We will work on it, “he added.

Muttaqi expressed hope that the world recognizes the Islamic Emirate as soon as possible.

He also said that the current government is seeking to improve its relations with other countries.

Muttaqi’s remarks come as Washington and Doha recently signed an agreement under which Qatar will act the US protecting power in Afghanistan within its embassy in Kabul.

Some analysts see the deal as the starting point for Kabul-Washington engagement.

“This could pave the way for political and intelligence exchanges between the Taliban and the United States,” said Farhad Abrar, an international relations expert. “The United States desperately needs a political and intelligence presence in Afghanistan to fight extremist groups, especially ISIS, and the Taliban will seek to use that presence as pressure to gain recognition,” he added.

The Taliban are apparently optimistic about the deal.

Abdul Haq Hemad, a close associate of the Islamic Emirate, said Washington was unable to establish direct relations with the emirate, so it was looking for alternatives.

However, some experts believe that the world will interact with the current government when the Taliban meet the requirements of the international community.

Akram Arefi, a university lecturer, said the world’s engagement with the Taliban would be problematic unless the group creates an inclusive government and respects the human rights.

The Islamic Emirate has frequently said that the presence of figures from all ethnic groups in governmental posts in provinces in an indication of the government’s inclusivity and that the world should not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs under this pretext.
