Afghan forces repel Taliban attack on district in eastern province

Afghan security forces have pushed back the Taliban fighters from Shirzad District in eastern Nangarhar Province after about 24 hours of fighting.

Ataullah Khogyani, the spokesman for Nangarhar provincial governor told reporters that clashes between Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents erupted on 12 April, after two trucks filled with explosives blew up at the entrance of Shirzad District building and then Taliban engaged in fighting with security forces.

According to local sources, Afghan forces succeeded in pushing back the Taliban fighters from Shirzad District.

The spokesman for Nangarhar provincial governor added, that eight Afghan security forces were injured in the clashes as two of them are in critical condition, while 27 Taliban fighters were killed and 32 others wounded during the assault.
