At least 16 Taliban fighters were killed and injured in counter attack by Afghan security forces in northern Balkh Province, the defense ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, a group of Taliban fighters staged an attack on Wazir Abad village in Balkh district last night, but faced strong resistance from the Afghan forces.

The attack left 14 Taliban fighters killed and four others injured, the statement further added.
