Afghan gov’t appoints governors of five provinces

Afghan government on Monday appointed governors of Baghlan, Nuristan, Laghman, Khost and Samangan provinces.
Based on proposal of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), Taj Mohammad Jahed, has been appointed as governor of Baghlan Province, Rahmatullah Yarmal, has been appointed as governor of Laghman Province, Abdul Ghafoor Malekzai, has been appointed as governor of Nuristan Province, Mohammad Sediq Patman, has been appointed as governor of Khost Province and Mohammad Dawood Kalakani, has been appointed as governor of northern Samangan Province.
The Afghan Presidential Palace has also approved the proposal by the Ministry of Women Affairs to appoint 34 women as deputy governors of 34 provinces.
In the meantime, the presidential palace has called on all high-profile government officials to register their assets within the next three weeks. It vows to suspend salaries and privileges of those government officials who fail to register their assets.
