Afghan gov’t releases 98 more Taliban inmates

Afghan government on Sunday released 98 Taliban inmates as goodwill gesture to accelerate the peace process.
“98 Taliban prisoners were released in an issued presidential decree,” spokesman for National Security Council Jawid Faisal wrote on his twitter.
He also added that the process of releasing the remaining prisoners would continue in order to contain the outbreak of COVID-19 among prisoners.
5,000 Taliban prisoners and 1,000 Afghan government inmates are going to be released from detention centers based on the US-Taliban deal signed in Doha on February 29.
The government has released 748 prisoners, while the Taliban has freed 100 government inmates so far.
