NSA has said that Afghanistan maintains a sovereign relation with its neighbours based on its interests and a clear definition of foreign policy and that the two countries’ ties must be strengthened in the light of the same principle.

On his part, the Iranian ambassador said that the inter-Afghan talks had been the only option to ensure sustainable peace in Afghanistan and stressed the importance of paying serious attention in this regard.

Mr. Taherian has also emphasized on his country’s willingness to maintain ties between the two governments.

The remarks came as the US Special Peace Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad told the Afghan President Ashraf that there had been no notable progress in talks with the Taliban.
