The police chief of Helmand’s first security precinct, Abdul Baqi Barez, surrendered himself to the Taliban on Monday morning.

The Taliban have confirmed that Mr. Barez and five of his associates have joined the group.

Security officials have not yet commented to the media about the report.

This comes as fighting is currently underway between security forces and the Taliban fighters in the first and second security precincts of Lashkar Gah City.
