Afghan president, Turkish FM meet in Germany

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met on the sideline of Munich Security Conference where both sides discussed economic, security and peace related issues.
Mr. Ghani said that Afghanistan as an economic crossroad in the region, sought to have trade and transit ties with countries in the region, Central Asia and Turkey.
Ghani also added that Turkey’s efforts in ensuring security in Afghanistan could be useful and that the country’s role within the Resolute Support Mission in fighting terrorism is effective, adding that Afghanistan needs Turkey’s further support for Afghan defense and security forces.
On his part, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said his country was ready to keep supporting Afghan security forces and to remain in this country as long as there is need to their presence.
He also expressed hope that the ongoing peace talks could end conflict and violence in Afghanistan.
