The Afghan Second Vice President Sarwar Danish says the Afghan government has neither signed nor confirmed the agreement. The Taliban expect the new US administration to abide by the Doha agreement.

As the winner of the US presidential election becomes clear, conflicting demands have been raised here in Afghanistan by the government and the Taliban.

The second vice president today at a meeting in Kabul, called on the new US administration to review the peace process in order to remove obstacles facing it.

Danish said: “The Afghan government does not accept the Doha agreement as the basis of peace talks. We have neither signed nor supported or confirmed this agreement… We act upon our responsibility and commitment toward the Joint Kabul-Washington declaration and Consultative Loya Jirga (grand assembly) and the UN Security Council resolution and we are fully ready to resolve disputes on the negotiating table.”

But the Taliban have contradictory demand.

Dr. Mohammad Naeem, a spokesman for the group’s political bureau, told AFP that the Taliban did not sign the deal with a person, but they signed it with a government.

He reiterated the Taliban expect the new US administration to remain committed to the February agreement.

Accusing the Taliban of being behind intensification of violence and assassinations, Danish, added that such situation was not acceptable for Kabul.

He stated: ” This is a clear violation of the agreement between the Taliban and the United States. The Taliban have not fulfilled their commitment or even not severed ties with other terrorist groups. This indicates that the group still insists on its belligerent stance and does not believe in a peaceful solution.

The Taliban have been the main factor for the stalemate in Doha talks and that no progress has been made in the peace talks over the past two months, Danish further added.
