Afghan security forces retake district from Taliban in northeast

209 Shaheen Military Corps in Afghan north, in a released statement, said on Tuesday (2 April) that Afghan security forces have retaken control of Arghanj Khwah district in northeastern Badakhshan Province from Taliban militants.
The statement added that the district was recaptured following an operation conducted by Afghan security forces.
According to the statement, 14 armed Taliban militants were killed and seven others were wounded during the clearance operation in the district.
Nik Mohammad Nazari, spokesman for Badakhshan provincial governor said, Afghan security forces entered the centre of Arghanj Khwah district on Tuesday and the clearance operation is underway to eliminate the anti-government armed insurgents.
Mr Nazari further added: A number of Taliban hideouts were bombarded and heavy casualties were inflicted on armed militants. They have also been forced to retreat from some areas.
Arghanj Khwah district reportedly fell to the Taliban last week on Saturday but the Afghan Interior Ministry said it was planned retreatment to prevent casualties.
