Increasing insecurity and violence and displacement of thousands of families due to ongoing conflicts have prompted strong condemnation among Afghan senators.

At today’s meeting, the Senate expressed concern over casualties of civilians and displacement of thousands of people due to ongoing conflicts amid peace talks in Doha.

Senate Speaker, Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, said: “In addition to Kandahar, Uruzgan and Helmand, the security situation in some other provinces is also worrying. As a result of these wars, a number of our compatriots have been displaced and are facing numerous problems day by day with the arrival of the cold season.

He also called on the government to help support these families.

Mohammad Hashem Alokozai, chairman of the Senate Defense Affairs Committee, also said: ” With the signing of the Doha Agreement, the people of Afghanistan hoped for peace and ceasefire in the country, but the war is escalating every day and taking the lives of civilians.”

At today’s meeting, the Senate also issued a statement regarding the reduction and withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

The statement said that with the signing of the US-Taliban peace agreement, the people of Afghanistan expected an outcome from it; but not only did the war not end, the Taliban escalated the violence after the start of peace talks in Qatar.

The Senate also urged the Afghan government to use its active diplomacy to persuade the US government to continue its support for the Afghan government and security forces under the Kabul-Washington Security Treaty.

The senators have also proposed the Afghan government to establish a regional and international consensus with the mediation of the Organization of Islamic States, the United Nations and the United Nations Security Council in order to achieve a durable peace.
