Afghan, Taliban delegations to hold meeting on framework of talks
19 Sep 2020
The High Council for National Reconciliation led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah said on Saturday that the roadmap for peace will be finalized today and the Taliban have not yet raised issues that hinder the talks.
Eight days since the beginning of the intra-Afghan talks, the negotiating parties have not yet succeeded in establishing a roadmap for advancing public meetings and setting the agenda. According to sources from Doha, the two sides are scheduled to hold a meeting to agree on a roadmap and hold the formal talks subsequently.
Spokesperson for the State Ministry for Peace Najia Anwari has told Arezo that the two sides still have differing views and efforts are underway on working procedure of the next meetings.
In the meantime, a member of the Afghan negotiating team, Rasool Talib, said that they had tough negotiations with the Taliban over the past week, adding that talks on key issues are likely to begin this week.
Elsewhere, the High Council for National Reconciliation has expressed hope over progresses in Doha talks. Deputy head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Asadullah Sa’adati, said the Taliban had not yet raised any issue hinder the negotiations.
This comes as former Afghan foreign minister, Salahuddin Rabani, criticized the ongoing peace talks, saying the process could not lead to lasting peace in the country.
