Afghanistan’s COVID-19 cases rise to 1,226

The number of coronavirus cases has reached 1,226 as Afghanistan recorded 50 more cases, Public Health Minister Firuzuddin Firuz told a press conference on Thursday.
“21 new cases have been confirmed in the country over the past 25 hours with 21 cases in Herat, 15 cases in Kunduz, six cases in Kabul, four cases in Logar, two cases in Panjshir, one case in Jowzjan and one case in Takhar province,” he said.
According to the ministry, 177 people have recovered and 40 others died of the COVID-19 since its outbreak.
The Afghan health minister also said countries that were pioneers in the fight against the virus have recommended others to repeatedly gargle their throat with warm salt water on a daily basis.
He also urged Afghan citizens to take the ministry’s instructions seriously. Mr. Firuz also said that they had received the second shipment of China’s medical aid to Afghanistan.
In the meantime, Chinese ambassador to Kabul, Wang Yu, promised that his country would remain committed to provide Afghanistan with medical supplies to fight the COVID-19.
Elsewhere, the Afghan health minister said the capacities of hospitals had improved in the country, urging the medical staff of hospitals to perform their tasks honestly.
