Mohammad Ajmal Fayez, police chief of northern Balkh province, has been fired, Interior Ministry Spokesman Tariq Arian said on his twitter on Monday.

Sayed Merajuddin Sadat has been appointed as new police chief for Balkh Province, Arian added.

Earlier, the interior ministry sacked a number of security officials in Balkh, accusing them of being negligent in their works.

This comes as residents of Mazar-e-Sharif City have frequently expressed concerns over an  increase in the level of crimes and insecurity in Balkh province.
