The construction work of Shorabak dam in northeastern Badakhshan Province has been completed, the Energy Services Regulation Authority said Tuesday.

According to officials, the construction of this dam started in 2015 at a cost of 45 million Euros, with the help of Germany, and with its opening, 15,000 families will benefit from electricity.

Spokesman for the Energy Services Regulation Authority, Ahmed Asir Nikzad, said that Shorabak Dam could generate 7.68 megawatts of electricity.

Meanwhile, residents of Badakhshan are pleased with the construction of the dam and are calling on the government to implement other infrastructural projects in the province.

The Shorabak dam in Badakhshan province is located seven kilometers west of the city of Faizabad and is built on the Kokchah River, which is one of the most important projects of the Energy Services Regulation Authority.

The opening of this dam will have a significant economic growth, officials say.
