Afghan security forces retreated from Shortepa district of northern Balkh province on Sunday.

Head of Balkh Provincial Council, Afzal Hadid, told Arezo TV that security forces retreated from the district due to lack of reinforcement.

Local and security officials have not yet commented on the report.

This comes as Afghan security forces led by Atta Mohammad Nur, launched an operation in the district days ago.
