Doab district of Nuristan falls to Taliban
05 Jun 2021
Doab district of eastern Nuristan province fell to the Taliban fighters on Friday night.
Head of Nuristan Provincial Council, Saeedullah Nuristani, said the district had been under siege by the Taliban for the past 20 days, and the Taliban finally took control of it last night.
Mr. Nuristani said that security and public uprising forces had repeatedly asked for help and assistance from Kabul, but had not received any ground or air support, which eventually forced them to retreat.
Local officials and Silab Military Corps have not yet commented on the report.
After Nangarhar and Laghman, Nuristan is the third province where fierce fighting is underway between security forces and the armed groups.
