The European Union has called for the immediate launch of intra-Afghan talks.

The union has urged all political forces in Afghanistan to resolutely seize the historic opportunity for a lasting peace, and call for the start of direct intra-Afghan negotiation without further delay.

The EU has also welcomed the actions taken so far by the Afghan government to release the Taliban prisoners and promised to remain a committed partner for Afghanistan.

The Afghan government accuses the Taliban of delaying the intra-Afghan talks, but the Taliban has promised to hold the negotiations after resolution of technical problems.

In the meantime, given the scale of the conflicts, Afghan citizens call on the warring sides to launch the intra-Afghan talks as soon as possible and declare a ceasefire afterward.
