The Taliban fighters on Saturday stormed the central prison of Sheberghan city and released the prisoners.

Some members of the Provincial Council confirmed the report and said that the Taliban had released prisoners by attacking the province’s prison.

They say fighting between security forces and Taliban fighters is currently ongoing in Karte Dostum and the Sheberghan National Directorate of Security.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense announced yesterday that the city of Sheberghan had been cleared of the Taliban and that the group’s fighters had suffered heavy casualties.
