08 Aug 2021
The Taliban attacked large parts of Sar-e-Pol and Kunduz provinces.
A member of the Kunduz Provincial Council, Amruddin Wali, told Arezo that the Taliban fighters attacked Kunduz City from several directions.
The provincial Police Command and National Directorate of Security are now under the Taliban siege, and a number of families have fled as fighting intensifies, he said.
In Sar-e-Pol, sources reported that the Taliban had taken control of many parts of the provincial capital, and that serious clashes were underway.
Clashes also entered their third day in the central city of Sheberghan in Jowzjan. Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Fowad Aman, said that Taliban hideouts were being targeted in the province.
According to Mr. Aman, US B-52 bombers also targeted a Taliban gathering in Sheberghan yesterday evening, inflicting heavy casualties on the group. The Taliban have not yet commented.

Following the escalation of fighting, particularly in the north of the country, Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum held talks with President Ghani yesterday about the security situation.

Fighting in several provincial capitals in recent days has caused civilian casualties and displaced thousands.
