28 Feb 2021
Officials at Herat agriculture department say that a large part of fish in Herat markets is supplied by fish breeding centers in the province.
Chesht-e-Sharif and Obah districts of Herat are major fish meat production centers in Herat.
The need for fish meat in the past in Afghanistan was supplied only by sea fish, but today a large part of fish meat is obtained from markets and fish farms.
Meanwhile, a number of farmers in Herat are satisfied with the fish farming process and call for the government’s support to further nurture their industry.
According to statistics provided by the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Afghanistan needs more than 360,000 tons of fish meat annually, and a large part of it is currently imported.
