Five people were killed and three others were injured in an attack by unknown gunmen on a youth gathering in eastern province of Nangarhar.

The incident took place after Taraweeh prayer in Lalpur district, provincial governor Zia-ul Haq Amarkhil said.

The gathering was held at the home of a former member of the Taliban and that the former member and his brother were among those killed, Amarkhil added.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident, local official said.
