Five members of a single family were killed in a gas cylinder explosion in eastern Nangarhar Province, Provincial Governor Spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said.

The incident took place in Ghani khil district, leaving three others wounded. Children are also among the dead, he added.

Nangarhar public health department said that the condition of a number of injured in the incident is critical.

In a separate report, unknown armed men shot dead an individual in 1st security precinct of Jalalabad City.

Confirming the incident, local officials said they had launched an investigation into the incident.
