Ghani, Abdullah sign political deal
17 May 2020
Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his main electoral rival Abdullah Abdullah have finally reached a power-sharing agreement after months of political disputes.
Based on the agreement signed on Sunday at the Presidential Palace, Abdullah will lead the National Reconciliation High Commission and members of his team will be included in the cabinet, “presidential spokesman Sediq Seddiqi wrote on his twitter account.
Ghani and Abdullah both claimed victory in last September’s presidential elections and held parallel inaugurations.
The inaugurations plunged the country into political crisis that further deteriorated the security situation.
