Gov’t approves 48 Reconciliation Council members

Afghan government on Saturday announced members of the High Council for National Reconciliation.

President Ashraf Ghani in a decree and based on article 64 of the constitution, approved members of the reconciliation council to push forward peace negotiations with the Taliban.

The council led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah includes prominent political figures, jihadi leaders, governmental and non-government officials and women.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, jihadi figure Abdurrab Rasul Sayyaf, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Yunus Qanuni, Karim Khalili, Mohammad Mohaqeq, Marshal Abdurrashid Dostum, Atta Mohammad Nur, Salahuddin Rabbani, and a number of other political figures are included the list.

First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh, Second Vice-President Sarwar Danish, Acting Foreing Minister Haneef Atmar, National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib and chairmen of the National Council are also members of the reconciliation council.
