Islam Qala tragedy will be thoroughly investigated – Saleh
14 Feb 2021
The Afghan First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh has expressed his condolences to the businessmen who have suffered financial losses as a result of a huge fire in Islam Qala Port, and said that the incident is being investigated thoroughly and profoundly.
Mr. Saleh on his Facebook page called the lack of standard infrastructure in Afghanistan’s ports a problem, saying that the president had contracted port designs with a foreign company – so that Afghanistan could standardize its customs and ports.
The first vice president said that the government has encouraged foreign companies to invest in Afghanistan’s customs facilities and ports for the past eight months, adding that at least one large global company has been willing to invest so far and several countries have promised to study the possibilities of investing in customs and ports.
The Afghan first VP thanked the Iranian government for allowing hundreds of trucks loaded with commercial goods to enter the country to be safe from fire, and also praised the country’s fire brigade to help contain the fire.
