US Special Peace Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday, the presidential palace said in a statement.

The two sides discussed in detail the reduction in violence and its management by the Afghan government, the statement added.

President Ghani briefed the US envoy on his consultative meetings with leadership of security bodies, members of provincial councils and governors and added consultations would continue with all spectrum of society in this regard, the statement stated.

Khalilzad on his part has provided details on the next steps in the peace process after violence reduction to the Afghan president, the statement further added.
