US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met with Taliban political leader in Doha and discussed intra-Afghan talks and prisoner release, Taliban Political Spokesman Suhail Shaheen wrote on his twitter.

The meeting comes day after US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper accused both the Taliban and the Afghan government of failing to live up to their commitments in the peace deal.

In a separate report, Special Representative of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian has held talks with Taliban’s political leaders regarding the political deadlock in Afghanistan.

Iran foreign ministry said in a statement that Taherian in a telephone conversation with Taliban officials in Qatar, examined the current developments in Afghanistan.

The two sides also exchanged views on future developments in inter-Afghan negotiations and comprehensive efforts to prevent the widespread spread of the coronavirus in Afghanistan.

Taherian met with afghan leaders in Kabul in recent weeks where he presented Iran’s positions and proposals for resolving the country’s current political problems.
