Khalilzad meets with former Afghan president Hamid Karzai

US Special Peace Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad met with former Afghan president Hamid Karzai after holding talks with President Ghani and high peace council chairman, Abdullah Abdullah.
During the meeting, Mr. Karzai said that under no pretext should the process of negotiations between the Afghans be stopped and that this process should yield a positive outcome as soon as possible.
The two sides stressed the need to end the war and ensure lasting peace, as well as touched on the role of regional countries and the United Nations in the peace process, according to a press release issued by the former president’s press office.
Separately, the US peace envoy held talks with Marshal Abdurrashid Dostum and discussed acceleration of peace and creation of a national consensus in the process.
