Khalilzad urges Gov, Taliban to accelerate prisoner release
26 Apr 2020
The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has urged both the Afghan government and the Taliban to accelerate the prisoner release process.

“Ramadan offers the Taliban an opportunity to embrace a humanitarian ceasefire to reduce violence and suspend offensive military operations until the health crisis is over,” Khalilzad said on his twitter.
In the meantime, the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) in a message on the occasion of the fasting month of Ramadan has called on the warring sides in Afghanistan to reduce violence and reach an agreement on a sustainable ceasefire.
Earlier, the Taliban has rejected the Afghan government’s call for a ceasefire and vowed to continue their attacks on Afghan security forces.
