Four people were killed and wounded as several mortar shells hit a market in Balkh district of northern Balkh Province.

Spokesman for Balkh police, Adel Shah Adel, said two civilians were killed and two others were wounded when several mortar shells were fired at a market in Balkh district.

Mr Adel added that the mortar shells had been fired by the Taliban.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
