A day after the appointment of Mir Rahman Rahmani, MP from Tajik ethnicity as Afghanistan’s lower house speaker, lawmakers loyal to Kamal Naser Osoli, MP from Pashtun ethnicity, have occupied his seat today, 19 May and opposed his election as chairman of the parliament.

A video clip that has gone viral on social media outlets show pro and anti Rahmani lawmakers engaging in serious verbal quarrel, insulting one another.

The Afghan lower house of parliament on Saturday, 18 May, elected Mir Rahman Rahmani as the house’s speaker with 123 votes, but his election sparked anger among some other MPs, accusing him of distributing money for securing the post.

His rival, Kamal Naser Osoli obtained 55 votes, as 244 MPs were present at the house and three MPs were absent and did not vote.

Mir Rahman Rahmani is a former military general who has completed his studies in Russia.
