New police chief appointed for Balkh Province

Mohammad Ajmal Fayez, has been appointed as new police chief of northern Balkh Province of Afghanistan on Saturday (12 April).

At his introduction ceremony, Fayez said that his priorities would be arresting murderers, thieves, and criminals.

The newly-appointed Balkh police chief also added that he would have all options to table to fight against armed groups.

Balkh Provincial Governor Eshaq Rahguzar also assured that the local government will stand beside the newly-appointed commander in arresting criminals and murderers.

Head of Balkh Provincial Council Afzal Hadid, thanked the former police chief for his performances, who served the province for almost a month.

Earlier, Abdul Raqib Mobarez was appointed as Balkh police chief by the government that led to hours of clashes between supporters of ex-governor Atta Mohammad Nur and Afghan forces.

But Atta Mohammad Nur, had said that the appointment of Mr Mobarez was in contradiction with the agreements reached between him and the central government.
