President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the US Peace Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and discussed the ongoing peace process in the presence of some political figures.

Afghan Presidential Palace, in a released statement, said that during the meeting, Afghan political figures shared their concerns and viewpoints with Khalilzad concerning the process.

Meantime, in a separate meeting at the Presidential Palace, Ghani said that he won’t accept pressures on the Afghan government in regard to the peace talks, adding that he and the US officials have agreed to discuss all aspects of the peace process in detail.

” Today, the president had a meeting with Mr Khalilzad. A number of political and jihadi figures were also present at the meeting. The participants have separately shared their concerns and suggestions in regard to the peace process. The next steps in the peace process were also discussed in the meeting. Such meetings will continue and their details will later be shared with the people of Afghanistan”, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy presidential spokesman told media outlets.

Meanwhile, some other government officials assure that the achievements of the past two decades won’t be squandered in the peace talks.

” Any deal under the name of peace won’t lead to peace. We cannot deny the rights of the majority of the people of Afghanistan in the peace talks”, Afghan Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah was quoted as saying at a meeting in Kabul.

US and Taliban representatives reached an initial agreement in their fifth round of negotiations in Qatar, but apparently, it seems that there are still differences on some issues.

On the other hand, the government has stepped up efforts to create an inclusive peace delegation to represent Kabul in the talks with the Taliban. Khalilzad’s stay in Kabul indicates that he is seeking to bring viewpoints of Afghan politicians and government together in the reconciliation process.
