A number of protesting candidates and their supporters in Samangan province have blocked the main highway linking the capital Kabul to northern provinces.

The protestors took to the streets and warned to continue their protests unless their demands are met.

The angry protestors claimed that the protests have led to clashes with police that left one killed so far.

The protests come a day after the Afghan president Ashraf Ghani officially inaugurated the new parliament on Friday (26 April) following long delays.
