04 Mar 2020
Qatari Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah has expressed his country’s readiness to facilitate the Afghan peace process.
The Qatari Emir in a telephone conversation with the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday evening said that his country would continue to exert efforts that would help in conducting dialogue between the Afghan government and Taliban to reach another peace agreement between the two parties that would lead to achieving security and stability in Afghanistan, the presidential palace said.
During the phone call, the Qatari Emir told Ghani he cautioned the Taliban that “Afghanistan today is not compared with the past two decades.”
“The new realities of Afghanistan are that the country now has an elected legitimate government and the Taliban must accept that it represents its people on behalf of the Afghan government and it raises serious and legitimate demands,” Sheikh Tamim was quoted as saying.
