Released prisoners not returning to battlefield, Taliban say
26 Jul 2020
The Taliban have claimed that released prisoners from Afghanistan detention centers are not returning to the battlefield.
“The released prisoners of the Islamic Emirate have been instructed by IEA to stay at their homes & not return to battlefields. They have strictly acted on it. Notwithstanding that, they are incessantly raided, detained and put behind the bar by NDS of the Kabul Adm,” Taliban Spokesman in Doha, Suhail Shaheen said on his twitter.
Earlier, the acting defense minister of Afghanistan said the released Taliban prisoners had returned to the battlefields and engaged in fighting with the Afghan security forces.
Based on the US-Taliban deal in Doha, the Taliban have to release 1,000 prisoners of Afghanistan, and in return the Afghan government should also release 5,000 Taliban inmates.
The Afghan government has recently freed 4,400 Taliban prisoners, however, it refuses to release the remaining 600 others, calling them dangerous criminals.
The Taliban have insisted on the release of their remaining prisoners, in order to launch the intra-Afghan negotiations.
