Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov has said that Moscow maintains productive cooperation with Washington on Afghanistan.

“We maintain productive cooperation with Washington through the special representatives on Afghanistan, both bilaterally and multilaterally. We use these contacts to coordinate our approaches in order to create a favorable international environment for putting an end to the armed confrontation in this country and launching direct peace talks between the opposing Afghan groups,” he said in an exclusive interview with Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.

Elsewhere he added:” In addition, we are focusing on fighting terrorism in Afghanistan as part of Russian-American counterterrorism dialogue, which is conducted at the deputy foreign minister level and at the level of experts from the relevant government agencies. Our frequent contacts make it possible to regularly exchange the assessments of threats in this region and agree on practical steps bilaterally and multilaterally, including at the UN, to cut them short and prevent them.”
