Salang Pass which connects northern parts of Afghanistan to the capital Kabul has been blocked due to heavy snowfalls, officials said.

Salang Pass Safety and Protection Department announced that heavy snowfall in northern part and storm in southern part of Salang Pass have caused closure of the highway.

The department has asked drivers and passengers not to cross the highway until further notice.

Salang Pass is temporarily closed every year in winter season due to heavy snowfall and strong winds and storms.
