At least seven children aged below 15 have been killed and 10 others wounded when an unexploded mortar shell went off in Afghan eastern province of Laghman.

Asadullah Dawlatzai, the provincial governor’s spokesman said that the incident occurred on Sunday (14 April) in Basram village near Mehtarlam.

Officials in Laghman central hospital say a number of the wounded are in critical condition.
