Seven army soldiers were killed and wounded in a shooting spree by unknown gunmen in Herat.

Security officials say that unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a ranger-type vehicle of security forces at 7 a.m local time in Minarha area of Herat City and fled the area.

Herat Hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai said three soldiers were killed and four others were injured in the incident.

In a separate incident, six policemen were wounded in an explosion at a security checkpoint in Herat’s Injil district last night.
