The Stability and Convergence team led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has introduced a new governor for northern Sar-e Pol Province, a privy source said.

The source added that Head of Sar-e Pol Provincial Council, Mohammad Nur Rahmani, has been appointed as the provincial governor.

Earlier, Afghan first Vice-President Gen Abdul Rashid Dostum had called on the Stability and Convergence to introduce new governors for northern provinces as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, reports say that supporters of the Stability and Convergence team have removed posters of Ashraf Ghani from walls of the province’s governor office and installed Dr. Abdullah’s poster instead.

The Central Government have so far not made any official comment on the report.
