26 Nov 2020
The Afghan government urges the Taliban to give up violence and literally enter the peace process.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, presidential spokesman, Sediq Seddiqi, said that no specific progress was made in the peace process and that the stalemate still exists within it.
The Taliban have been stressing on various issues for several days now that it is beyond the authority and limits of the of the Afghan negotiating team and will never be accepted by the people of Afghanistan, Mr. Siddiqi added.
Although the presidential spokesman did not shed further lights on the Taliban’s demands, he emphasized that they were against the constitution and the country’s national interests.
“The principles of the Afghan negotiating delegation are the constitution and the decision of the Loya Jirga [Grand Assembly], hence, no one has the right to deviate from these principles, “he further added.
Later on, he said that if the Taliban refuse to accept the demand of the people of Afghanistan for peace and a ceasefire, they must obey the will of the international community.
The presidential spokesman stressed that the Taliban group has no international legitimacy, while the Afghan government do so, therefore, the Taliban must accept these facts.
This comes as sources earlier reported that the stalemate in intra-Afghan talks were removed.
