Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday conversed with residents of Darwaz district of northeastern Badakhshan Province of Afghanistan via a loudspeaker.

The conversation between Tajik president and some Afghan citizens took place along border areas of the two countries divided by Amu Darya (a river in Afghanistan and Central Asia).

Emomali Rahmon has promised residents of Darwaz district to provide them help for the development of their region.

During the conversations, residents of Darwaz District have asked Tajik president to help them in various development fields.

Tajik president promised to provide essential support for residents of Darwaz. He expressed hope that peace is brought to Afghanistan so that trade, scientific and cultural relations between the two countries expand further.

Tajik leader’s conversation with Afghan citizens has sparked mixed reactions.

Some social media users have welcomed it, urging the Afghan government to take concrete actions for expansion of the country’s infrastructures. While some others described the conservation as an intelligence maneuver, saying such conversations should have taken place through diplomatic channels in coordination with the foreign ministry of Afghanistan.

The Afghan government has not commented on the subject so far.
