The Afghan and the Taliban representatives have agreed on a code of conduct that sets ground rules to advance their peace talks in Doha, quoting three official sources, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

The delegations, helped by U.S. officials, agreed on Monday on 19 rules which make up a code of conduct that will be followed to stop the peace talks collapsing, the sources told Reuters.

Negotiations between the Afghan government and the insurgent Taliban started last month in Qatar’s capital and are aimed at ending decades of war in Afghanistan.

In the meantime, the US Special Peace Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has stressed the importance of violence reduction to push the peace talks forward.

“A significant reduction in violence will save lives; increase trust; broaden support for peace; and help the negotiating teams make progress at a faster pace. This is what the Afghan people want. And the United States stands with them. Violence is too high, and too many Afghans are dying. We are pressing for a significant reduction in violence that will lead to a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire., “Khalilzad on twitter.

Later on, the voiced the USA’s support for the Afghan peace talks and stated: “The United States supports an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned process and remains ready to assist. We call on all nations, especially the neighbors and other key players, to do the same.”
