Yumgan district of northeastern Badakhshan Province has fallen to the Taliban, according to reports.
“Taliban fighters carried out offensive attacks on the district from several directions on Saturday morning,” a provincial council member said.
The district fell to the Taliban at 11 am local time and Afghan security forces have retreated from the area, the provincial council member added.
Local officials however denied reports about collapse of the district but said heavy clashes were underway between Afghan security forces and the Taliban insurgents in Yumgan district.
