Taliban militants on Tuesday have carried out an attack on Bangala bridge in Balkh district of northern Balkh Province.

The Taliban were forced to retreat from the area after reinforcement forces arrived to provide backup, a according to security officials.

Although Afghan security have suffered casualties during clashes with Taliban fighters, Balkh Provincial Police Chief Ajmal Fayez rejects such a claim.

This comes a week after a car bombing near a security outpost in the same area claimed the lives of ten Afghan army soldiers.
